Our Services

friendly environment

Having any type of surgery can make you feel anxious. At Martha Jefferson Hospital we do all we can to put you and your family at ease. From pre-operative education to private patient rooms and a discharge brunch to ensure you receive all the information you need as you head home, we want to make you and your family as comfortable as possible.

Before your surgery, you will be encouraged to attend Joint Replacement Camp where you will have an opportunity to hear from our specially trained Orthopaedic Nurse Navigator, receive information about your specific surgery including a pre-operative checklist, information about how to prepare yourself and your home, pain management and post-operative exercises. We also provide Hibiclens soap during Joint Camp with instructions for use the night before and morning of surgery. This special soap helps to decrease the normal amount of bacteria that is on the skin, therefore helping to decrease the chance of an infection.

On the day of your surgery, you will be directed to check in at the registration desk on the first floor. You will be registered and taken back to the Day Surgery area to get prepared for your surgery. Intravenous antibiotics are given within an hour before the incision is made and then continued for 24 hours post-op.

Typically you will be discharged after two or three nights. You may attend a Discharge Brunch, where you will be provided all the information and prescriptions you need as you depart. For your convenience, we now have an outpatient pharmacy within the hospital where you can fill your discharge prescriptions.
