In 2006, Martha Jefferson Hospital received initial designation as a Magnet® organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), an accomplishment held by less than 6 percent of hospitals in the world.
The Magnet® Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to recognize healthcare organizations that provide nursing excellence. The Magnet® program also provides a medium for disseminating new knowledge and exemplary professional nursing practice.
On July 21, 2011, Martha Jefferson achieved re-designation by the ANCC. To achieve re-designation, hospitals must demonstrate sustained structures and processes to support exemplary nursing practice, as well as evidence of quality outcomes, new knowledge, and innovations.
According to the ANCC, “Consumers rely on Magnet® designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing. Magnet is the leading source of successful nursing practices and strategies worldwide.”
